About Bluffing It

The journey.

The overall aim is to cycle from the top to the bottom of New Zealand for charity.

The journey will start from Cape Reinga, on the Northernmost tip of the North Island to a town called Bluff on the Southernmost tip of the South Island.  To drive the direct route between the two points is 2089km!  Usually people take 3 to 4 weeks to complete the journey.  Not me. I will be doing things slightly differently.

This journey is not about trying to make it from one end of the country to the other in the shortest amount of time.  Where is the fun in just going from 'A to B'?  Image how the Lord of the Rings trilogy would have turned out if Frodo just jumped on one of those giant eagles at the beginning and just gunned it over to Mordor to drop off the ring?  No Orcs, no battles, no Liv Tyler/Orlando Bloom (delete as appropriate), just a 9 hour film of the back of Frodo's head as he does the equivalent of a long haul flight to Mordor.  This journey is about...well...the journey.

I understand that in today's world of interconnected multi-plateformed interwebbered devices, that clicking a 'donate now' button is a bit of a passive process for some of you.  I get that.  So, as part of my journey, I will be accepting challenges (see the 'Challenges' page for more information) from you,  the public, to complete along the route.  Challenges can take any form, they can range from the challenging to the absurd, but as long as they are respectful, legal and based in reality.  What will the challenges be? I will leave that up to you, I know you won't disappoint.

Why am I doing this?

I have 10 months left on my NZ visa before I have to get my shit together and finally accept that I need to grow up and settle on one path in life.  So this moment in time is the perfect moment to do something that will jettison me from my comfort zone and force me to confront some important questions about myself.  And why should I be the only one to benefit from this experience?  The more people who can benefit from the journey the better.  And you can be part of the journey.
